The natural shape of the tops of stockade fence inspired these fancy fish. Melonart painted the wooden pickets, creating an ocean of one-of-a-kind fishy friends. Each fish in this collection has an eye made from stacked buttons. These have multiple coats of urethane, so they’re suitable for indoor our outdoor display, and they have a string on the back for hanging.
Individual fish are about a foot wide with a height of 3 inches. Schools of four fish are all connected as one unit that measures 8-inches-wide and 12-inches-tall.

About Melonart
Maryellen Costello Dunbar, the artist behind Melonart, relocated to Cape Cod in 2017. She has always loved color, patterns, and reusing items of every description. In addition to creating the pieces we feature at Repurposed, she has taught art to pre-K through adult ed, and developed her own "cottage industry" of hand painted furniture, murals, and accessories. She tells us: "I upcycle items to create new life, new art!"
