Reimagined Plastics - Hinged Hearts

Part of the Reimagined Plastics collection by artist Karen Randolph, each of these pieces is actually two smaller works of art, connected with a wooden hinge pin.

These collaged pieces are created from recycled plastic accented with other salvaged materials, such as tissue paper and fabric. Using a process she developed herself, Karen irons two to six layers together to create multilayered sheets of plastic. She then cuts, composes, and fuses the material to create the beautiful image you see here. When finished, she sews each picture to cardstock. It takes the artist five to ten hours to complete each original artwork.

Hinged Heart 2 has red stripes on the left panel, yellow stripes on the right panel, and a larger red heart to the extreme left.

The measurements for both pieces are roughly the same, with each art panel measuring just over 3" wide and just under 4" tall. They are permanently adhered to pieces of scrap wood, each of which is 3.625" x 4.375" x .875". These pieces can be angled at the hinge and are freestanding.
